Samsung launches Hexa Core Galaxy Note 3 Neo LTE+ and Quad Core Note 3 Neo

We had shared the rumors of the upcoming launch of Galaxy Note 3 Neo device when Galaxy Grand Neo went official. While we were expecting a single device, comes out that Samsung decided to give us a double surprise by launching two devices – namely the Galaxy Note 3 Neo and Note 3 Neo LTE+. Both these devices have been made official by Samsung Poland.

As the name of these handsets tells us, the only major difference between these two is that the Note 3 Neo LTE+ supports LTE+ (LTE Cat 4) as a connectivity option while the Note 3 Neo supports only 3G networks. The other (minor) difference is that of the processors that power these devices. Note 3 Neo LTE+ is powered by the long rumored Exynos Hexa-core processor, where the two A15 cores (more powerful) are clocked at 1.7 GHz while the four A7 cores (battery friendly) are clocked at 1.3 GHz.The Note 3 Neo, on the other hand, has a 1.6 GHz Quad core processor.

While the performance of both these phones should almost be the same, Exynos Hexa-core processors in Note 3 Neo LTE+ should theoretically give better battery life than the processor present in Note 3 Neo. The battery advantage the Note 3 Neo LTE+ holds in the processor section might fizzle out considering that operating the phone on LTE+ networks would be a major battery drainer. So, it is too early to say which of these phones will give a battery backup.

Both Note 3 LTE+ and Note 3 Neo borrow their design from Galaxy Note 3, thus retaining the Faux Leather back and the iconic S Pen stylus. Let’s jump to the specs section of the Note 3 Neo LTE+. (I’m skipping the specs of Note 3 Neo as I’ve already told you the differences and having studied DBMS in my previous semester, I hate redundancy :P)

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo LTE+: Technical Specs

  • 5.5 inch display with 720p resolution (267 pixels per inch)
  • Exynos Hexa Core processor with four A7 cores at 1.3 GHz and two A15 cores at 1.7 GHz
  • 2 GB RAM
  • LTE+ Support
  • 16 GB Internal storage
  • 8 MP Primary Camera, 2 MP Front Camera
  • Android v4.3 Jelly Bean (Update to KitKat expected later on)
The phones are expected to be rolled out globally next month i.e. February. We shall keep you informed about any pricing details of the phone. Given the specs of these phones, these might be priced similar to Galaxy S4 – Note 3 Neo LTE+ will obviously be priced more than the Note 3 Neo.

Flipkart promotes Moto G’s 5th Feb launch – Teases exclusive offers

Flipkart is India’s largest online retailer, so it only makes sense that it will be one of the first retailers to offer the highly awaited Moto G. Earlier today, Flipkart tweeted earlier today that the Moto G will be coming soon on Flipkart with exclusive offers.

Flipkart has set up a sign up page to allow interested buyers to be notified of the launch and the offers that come with it. The sign up page hints at early bird benefits stating that those who will buy the phone on the day of launch will get incredible offers. As has already been announced by Motorola India, details about Moto G launch and availability will be made official on the 5th of February i.e. 5 days from now.

One of the contradicting things I noticed on the sign up page is that the specifications mentioned show the Moto G to be running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean while earlier we had heard that Moto G will be launched in India (and a few other countries) with KitKat 4.4 onboard.

The Moto G is expected to go on sale for about Rs. 15k or lower for the 8 GB version. Thus, the phone is targeting the masses and has got a lot of people waiting for it since the phone had been announced internationally and it was confirmed that it would indeed see a launch in India in the coming months. Imported versions of the Moto G are already on sale for as low as Rs. 15k in India.

TOI reports that the recent transfer of ownership of Motorola from Google to Lenovo won’t hurt (or affect the launch of Moto G in India and other countries.

Moto G: Technical Specs

  • 4.5 inch 720p screen at 326 ppi
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Android 4.3 (KitKat update available)
  • 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 Quad Core processor
  • Adreno 305 GPU
  • 8/16 GB internal storage with no external sd card slot
  • 5 MP rear camera with Auto Focus, 1.3 MP Front camera
  • 2070 mAh “All day battery”
  • Customizable with colored backs
The phone is already available in select international markets starting at $179 for 8 GB version and $199 for 16 GB version.

Galaxy S4 and S4 Mini with Faux leather back announced for Plastic haters

We just saw the Note 3’s Faux Leather design being used in the Galaxy Note 3 Neo and Note 3 Neo LTE+, and Samsung seems determined to push the same design on to more of its phones as it announced new Black Editions of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini, both of which will inherit the Faxus leather back design from the Note 3.

Just like everyone else, we were strangled to death every time we saw a Samsung smartphone with the same old plastic and the same old boring design. There were even doubts over whether Samsung has a Designs department for their phones or not. Samsung experimented with the Faux leather back of the Galaxy Note 3 and it was much favorably received by everyone than any plasticky phone Samsung has launched in the recent times. Samsung hopes to bring its sales on track by riding on the Faux Leather design.

Nothing has changed on the specifications front as both the Black Edition S4 and S4 mini stick to the exact same specifications as we had seen in the original devices. The Galaxy S4 will feature the Snapdragon 600 processor, like we had seen in the US variant, instead of the Exynos Octa-core that was present in the international version.

These Black Edition devices will be available somewhere around March in Russia. The Black Edition S4 is priced at ~$660 while the S4 mini will go on sale for $460. Samsung has hushed on whether these variants will be launched in other countries. Samsung has reasons to decide either way. As S5 is almost here, it might be a bit reluctant on launching a new edition of the S4 instead of using all the hype on the S5. On the other hand, poor sales figure of the Galaxy S4 might force Samsung to go the other way around.

4 out of every 5 smartphones sold in 2013 was an Android, says study

Android continues to have a stronghold when it comes to the smartphone industry. According to a new research conducted by Canalys, about 4 out of every 5 smartphones sold in 2013 was an Android. Surprisingly to some, Apple lost market share despite witnessing increase in shipments.

Out of the 998 million smartphones estimated to be shipped last year, 785 million (79%) were powered by Android OS, while those powered by iOS counted to somewhere around 154 million (15%). On the other hand, Microsoft’s Windows OS for smartphones showed a strong Quarter-on-quarter boost in number of sales. In terms of percentage, Microsoft upped its market share by one percent to get to the 3% mark. Blackberry continues to loom into the darkness and witnessed another fall in its market share.

According to Canalys analyst Jingwen Wang, Microsoft missed out on even more growth. Explaining his stand, he said,
“Market uncertainty and caution affected Nokia’s performance in Q4, with Microsoft’s acquisition of its devices business yet to complete, as did arguably insufficient marketing, as Nokia and Microsoft failed to stimulate sufficient demand for the latest Lumia products to deliver a seasonal sales boost. With Lumia accounting for such a dominant portion of Windows Phone shipments, the growth of the OS faltered too.”
Chris Jones, Canalys principal analyst, states that things can turn out to be brighter for Lenovo in the near future, in wake of the recent Motorola acquisition, and it might be able to get to double-digit market figues by the end of 2015.

Despite its huge lead, Android needs to keep working hard as it continues to face stringent competition from its rival operating systems including the new born Firefox OS, Ubuntu OS and the up-and-coming Tizen OS which aren’t even in the figures right now.

Nexus 5's Red variant almost confirmed by press renders

Lately, we had heard rumors about the red and yellow variants of the latest and greatest in the Nexus series i.e. the Nexus 5. Press renders of the Red Nexus 5 leaked by prolific leaker @evleaks has added a lot of substance to these rumors.

The leak of press renders for the red variant of the Nexus 5 give us every reason to believe that a yellow version of the Nexus 5 might also be true and it is likely that both (or more of) these color options will be launched together.

Providing different color options to attract the youth has became a hot trend in the smartphone market these days, with every other smartphone out there being able to swap out colorful back covers or being available in a bunch of colors. So, seeing the same happen with Nexus 5 as a means to further its sales doesn't come.as a shock to anyone. We shall keep you posted on further details of this red killer from LG. Stay tuned and share the story to show your love.

Top 5 Android smartphones to get below Rs. 5000 [Feb 2014]

$

Android runs on 4 out of every 5 smartphones sold. This fact can be greatly attributed to Android being available for all kinds of budgets. Prior to Android, it was ridiculous to even think of getting a smartphone for Rs. 5000. These days, we have some decent ones up for sale priced as low as less than Rs. 3000 ($50). In this post, we shall look at the current options you have and filter them out to present the best ones.

Droidiser Recommends: 5 Android Smartphones to buy with Rs. 5,000 in your pocket

1. Samsung Galaxy Star S5282 (Rs. 4399)

If you are brand conscious and don’t want to sport a locally branded phone, Galaxy Star S5282 will probably be your best choice. Galaxy Star can be thought of as the successor to Galaxy Y. It runs on the relatively newer Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, powered by a 1 GHz single core processor and 512 MB of RAM which should be enough to do basic multi-tasking operations smoothly.

Other features of the phone include 4 GB of internal memory which should be enough for installing quite a lot of apps, a 2 MP rear camera and 1200 mAh battery which, according to the company, gives a talktime of around 14 hrs. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS, which is pretty much all we expect from a phone at this price point.

The phone has earned a 3.9 star rating, which is slightly on the lower side but people seem to get carried away by what they get from other local brands at the same price point. We can’t expect a Samsung phone to have the same features at the same price.

2. Karbonn A12+ (Rs. 4899)

Sorry if you find me favoring it a bit more, I perceived this phone as the best option at this price point, that’s why it lured me into preferring it over the others. I haven’t even once resented my decision of investing my money in this device, as has been made clear in our review of the A12+.

The device packs some of the best specifications present at this cost. The notable ones include a 5 MP primary camera, 2 MP front camera, 4 inch WVGA screen, 1.3 GHz dual core processor, 512 MB RAM, Mali 400MP GPU, 3G support and all this hardware makes sure that Android 4.2 Jelly Bean runs without any problem on this beautiful device. The looks might resemble that of a Lumia or a Xperia, but we pardon Karbonn for not being original as long as the device performs as it is expected to be, and till now, it has been doing a fair job. Moreover, Flipkart buyers have rated this device a handsome 4.2 stars out of 5, which speaks of their satisfaction.

3.Micromax A67 Bolt (Rs. 5125)

This phone is selling for about a hundred bucks more than the upper limit we have set for this article, but it is quite worth it. Bolt A67 runs Android 4.0 ICS using a 1 GHz Cortex A5 dual core processor and 512 MB of RAM. The 4 GB of internal storage makes sure that you wont’ be hit by the Internal storage is low warning message. A modest 2 MP camera is present at the rear side of the phone while a VGA camera at the front will make it possible to Skype and Video chat on the device itself.

The 4.5 inch screen size is a good one that sits nicely between the too big 5 inch and too small 4 inch sizes. The screen has FWVGA resolution which means that 854x480 pixels will work in tendom to display content on the screen. Apart from this, the phone has all the basic connectivity options except 3G, which can rightly be a deal-breaker for some.

Micromax, for sure, is a more trusted brand than other local Indian brands these days, which speaks for the slightly beefed up price tag of the Bolt A67.

4. Videocon A24 (Rs. 4098)

If it hadn’t been for the low 256 MB of RAM, this phone would’ve showcased the best value for money factor in this lot. RAM aside, the Videocon A24 is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor. The 4 inch display will produce crisp images with its 480x800 resolution. On the camera front, we get a 3.2 MP camera at the back while a 0.3 MP camera at the front side.

The internal memory, too, is on the lower side – 512 MB to be precise. 1250 mAh battery is probably not too much, but the official specs lead us to believe that this battery will give a talktime of upto 4 hrs. On the connectivity front, this phone also skips 3G and has almost every other connectivity options viz. Wi-FI, EDGE, Bluetooth etc.

5. Lenovo A269i (Rs. 3999)

Other than the single big disadvantage that the Lenovo A269i runs on the ancient Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, this phone has two major advantages over most phones in this list. For one, Lenovo is a more reputed brand than every other brand, except Samsung. Also, the acquisition of Motorola Mobility will only do more good to Lenovo in boosting its reputation and trust. The other one is that this phone has both a dual core processor and 3G support, a combination present only in Karbonn A12+ in this list.

Though this phone also has just 256 MB of RAM, Gingerbread consumes much less memory than Jelly Bean, and thus should not face frequent lagging problems. This phone earns a magnificent 4.6 star rating out of 5 from Flipkart users, which depicts the public’s approval of the budget Android device.

Conclusion:

If you were to ask me which phone I would go for for this budget, I would go for Karbonn A12+ yet again, without hesitating for a second. This phone hasn’t disappointed me in the 3 months or so I’ve used it till now. I can’t vouch for other phones whether their performance in real world will be as good as they sound on paper.

So, this was it. We hope you find one of these smartphones intriguing enough. Best of luck with your new Android smartphone. If you ever feel bored with your Android device, don’t feel scared in going adventurous and rooting it, to make sure your device works exactly the way you want it to be by controlling even the most miniscule elements of the operating system.

Samsung, Micromax, Karbonn tops the chart in Indian Smartphone Market Share: Report

According to a report by research firm Canalys, Samsung, Micromax and Karbonn holds the top three spots in the Indian smartphone market share in 2013. These three manufacturers collectively account for over 64% of all smartphones shipped in India in 2013.

Sony manages to get the fourth position while Nokia's sales look dismal, even after the highly popular Lumia 520, and has to satisfy with fifth position. Nokia once used to rule the Indian smartphone market singlehandedly and Microsoft, after its recent acquisition of Nokia, will try its level best to boost the sales figures in the coming years. LG, Lenovo, HTC and other Indian brands make up the remaining 23% of sales.

Motorola India reveals details about its service centers prior to Moto G launch

Motorola India has decided to give a breather to those who were concerned about where they will get thei Moto G serviced once the phone launches in India. The concerns were reasonable as Motorola had rolled up its business in India.

Just before the launch of the much awaited Moto G on February 5, Motorola Mobility updated its site with details about the new service centers of the smartphone manufacturer in India. Motorola has managed to gear up 80 service centers across 21 states and U.T.s in India. The number looks small when we look at other brands reputed for providing good after-sales service, but is still a decent number to go ahead with for the launch of a single device. The pdf document present at Motorola's official website can be downloaded here. As this document states, this list was updated by Motorola on 23rd of January.

In related news, Motorola Mobility has been acquired by Lenovo for $2.9 billion. Motorola has confirmed that this won't affect the launch of the Moto G in India. Even though the deal itself will take months to complete and thus for the ownership to transfer from Google to Lenovo, Lenovo eyes India as a market with huge potential, so you can stay sure of continued service and support for the device.

Before this deal was anywhere in the scene, Motorola had stated that Google treated it at par with other smartphone manufacturers and it didn't play any role in the swift Android updates Motorola provides to its devices.

All we know about HTC M8 (aka Two/One+) so far - March launch, specs, on-screen buttons and more colors

Whenever @evleaks has something to say (or leak), it must be listened seriously. This twitter account is famous for providing spot-on leaks and this time we've got some details about the expected launch dates of the HTC One 2/HTC Two/HTC M8 or whatever the successor to the HTC One is going to be called. According to @evleaks, the new flagship device from HTC will be launched somewhere around the end of March, if everything stays on schedule.

@evleaks also states that the device will be unveiled in the New York City, which is becoming the top choice for smartphone launches these days.
Leaked Pics: HTC M8 or Two

Other interesting leaks we have encountered about the HTC M8 are:
  • According to Shen Ye, XDA Moderator, the smartphone will be available in four different color options. Providing different color options is something new from HTC, as the Taiwenese manufacturer generally launches its phones in one or two colors only.
  • Just like the HTC One, HTC M8 will also have a Mini version of itself, tweets @evleaks. This phone is not likely to be launched along with the HTC M8, it might be launched a few months later. Nothing substantial about this phone's specifications has emerged yet.
  • HTC M8 might strip off the physical capacitive buttons, as we see in the Nexus devices these days. It will instead on-screen navigation bar which will be themed in accordance with the button designs we have seen on the One X and One.
  • The HTC M8 will probably run on Snapdragon 800 processor, have dual Ultra Pixel cameras and a 5 inch (or above) 2k QHD screen (1440x2560).

14 keyboard shortcuts to boost your productivity on a Web Browser [PC]

Web browsing is best done on a computer (or laptop). The nifty keyboard shortcuts that work universally on all the browsers on a computer can’t be matched by any gesture controlled shortcuts, or any similar thing on a tablet or a smartphone. Listed below are the keyboard shortcuts that make me claim everything above.

Note: I have tested the below shortcuts on Google Chrome v33, Opera v18, Firefox v16 (outdated, but I rarely use it) and Internet Explorer v11. (Almost all of) These shortcuts are universal and should work fine on other web browsers and different versions of the browsers I mentioned.
  1. Control + Left Click on a link to open it in new tab (Or pressing middle mouse button (or left and right touchpad buttons simultaneously, if configured correctly) on a link).
  2. Control + 1 or 2 or 3 …..9 to jump to the first or second or third... ninth tab, Control + 0 to switch to the last tab. (Doesn’t work on Opera 18, works on Chrome, Firefox, IE 11)
  3. Control + W to close tab.
  4. Control + Tab or Control + Shift + Tab to switch tabs clockwise or anti-clockwise (respectively).
  5. Control + T to open a new tab.
  6. Control + Shift + T to open the last closed tab (twice to open the last two tabs and so on…)
  7. Control + J to open Downloads Page.
  8. Control + H to jump to the History page.
  9. Control + O to open a document, Control + S to save the current page.
  10. Alt + Left Arrow to go back one page (like backspace), Alt + Right arrow to go forward one page. (Works even in File Explorer)
  11. Control + L to jump to the address bar (omnibox/url bar, whatever you call it), start typing an address and visit it right away!
  12. Control + U to view the page source of any web page.
  13. Control + Shift + N for private (or incognito) browsing on Chrome and Opera, Control + Shift + P for the same on Firefox. This feature doesn’t exist on Internet Explorer.
  14. And obviously, Control + F to find something in a page.
I know you won’t be able to put all these to use right away. Bookmark this page for easy access to this page later on so that you can revise all these shortcuts at will. Also, if this helped you even a tad bit, your friends might also find it useful. Share this story on your social networks to let them know.

Micromax launches A24, A37B and A46–Priced Rs. 3k-4.7k

Micromax seems in no mood to lose on its solid market share in India. In order to maintain its entry level portfolio, Micromax has introduced three new smarphones to its lineup – A24, A37B and A46. All these smartphones will join the Bolt come under the Bolt moniker, a low-end Android smartphone series from Micromax. These smartphones are already available on different online retailers, priced between Rs. 2,999 to Rs. 4,792.
Starting with the budget-iest Android device we’ve come to see lately, Micromax A24 runs on the oh-so-old Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, is powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A5 processor and has a 2.8 inch QVGA screen (240x320 pixels, 143 ppi). Other features include 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB of internal storage and a micro sd card slot. There is a paltry 0.3 MP rear camera, which, we are sure, would be good for nothing. Even with these specs, we aren’t really in a situation to complain as Micromax has priced it at a dirt cheap price of Rs. 3000 ($50). Bolt A24 will surely outdo any non-Android phone priced similarly with its connectivity options, as it supports EDGE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Micromax A37B and A46, the other two recently launched devices, are both pretty similarly nutritioned when it comes down to their specs. Both these devices run on the Android 4.2 JB operating system, are dual SIM with 3G support, have 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB ROM, micro sd slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 2 MP rear camera. One of the two major differences we have are that in the screen sizes and resolution. Micromax A37B has a 3.5” screen with 320x480 resolution (165 ppi) while Micromax A46 has a better 4” screen with 480x800 resolution (233 ppi). The other difference is that A46 comes with a 1.2 GHz MT6572 dual core processor while A37B comes with a 1 GHz dual core MT6572M processor.

Micromax A24 is already available on Flipkart for Rs. 2,999 while Infibeam is retailing Bolt A37B for Rs. 4,729. Snapdeal is offering the third one, i.e. Micromax Bolt A46 for INR 4,592.

[Exclusive Leak] 10,600 Moto G units to be on sale on Flipkart tomorrow, 1000 units pre-ordered on Snapdeal within 2 hours

According to our inside sources, Motorola has imported 5,600 units of the 8 GB version of Moto G and 5,000 units of the 16 GB one. All these units will be put up for sale on Flipkart starting tomorrow. Another interesting we noted from the data is that only the dual sim version of Moto G has been imported. We aren't pretty sure when the single sim version will be launched in India, if it ever will be.

Given the amount of response Moto G has garnered in India till now, all these units will be gone in a matter of hours. So, make sure you book yourself one, if you are interested, as soon as you get to hear of it. To be assured that you don't get too late, sign up with your email on this Flipkart page. Make sure you check out our comparison of the launch offers Snapdeal and Flipkart have been providing for Moto G.

In related news, Snapdeal had put up 1000 Moto G units on sale on its listing. Sources within Snapdeal told us that the device was sold out within 2 hours since the listing went live. We can get an idea of how many people have been waiting for the launch of Moto G in India by just that.

Also, it looks like Flipkart will be selling the device exclusively for about two weeks or so, as Snapdeal has already stated in its listing that the product will be available in the third week of February. Take this one with a pich of salt though, as we can't actually confirm this right now.

If you think the number of phones imported is too low, fret not. More units of the Moto G will be imported pretty soon. We hope Moto G in India isn't marred by unit shortage like Nexus 4 had to globally.

Read our coverage of the Moto G so far. (Droidiser is a one-man blog and I was busy with exams recently. So pardon me for not being there in the recent past.)

Samsung Mobile has tweeted the when and where of the Unpacked 2014 event. Unpacked 5 will take place on 24th of February at 20:00 CET i.e. 19:00 GMT (12:30 am in India). Earlier rumors led us to believe that the Galaxy S5 will see an early February launch this year and it is highly probably that the S5 will get unveiled in the Unpacked event.

The 5 at the end of Unpacked 5 almost confirms our belief and we might actually see this year's most awaited phone from Samsung exactly 20 days from today. As always, the Unpacked event will be streamed live on Youtube. We shall keep you updated with the latest from that event. It is being said that Samsung has been forced to release the next phone in the Galaxy S lineup because of lowe than expected sales of the Galaxy S4. If Galaxy S5 is a hit, Samsung will continue to strengthen its position as the top smartphone manufacturer in the world.
Warning: Just a concept device, not the real S5

All we know about Galaxy S5 so far

  • A 5 inch 2K QHD Display (1440x2560 pixels, 587 ppi)
  • New Exynos processor in 3G version, Snapdragon 805 in LTE version
  • 2900 mAh battery with rapid charging support
  • At least 16 MP camera, could turn out to be a 21 MP one!
  • Android 4.4 KitKat with Magazine UX (seen on Galaxy Note Pro) instead of Touchwiz
The specs listed above can give any smartphone enthusiast goosebumps. We are as eagerly waiting for the Galaxy S5 as you. Hope it isn't a disappointment like its predecessor.

The Great Indian Moto G Launch: Snapdeal and Flipkart compete to provide better launch offers

Moto G has been one of the most awaited phone in India since the day it was announced internationally. After Motorola officially stated that the launch details of Moto G will be made public on February 5, Flipkart and Sanpdeal are trying to cash in on the hype surrounding the phone by providing tempting launch offers for the device.

After Flipkart created a signup page promising exclusive offers for those who ordered the Moto G on its day of launch itself, Snapdeal listed the smartphone with some freebies for those buying the smartphone through them.

Also Read:[Exclusive Leak] Moto G's import statistics in India and more about the launch

At first, Flipkart hadn’t provided any details about the exclusive first day offers it was talking about. But later, it updated its Moto G page providing us details about what it plans to reward the first day buyers with, and here is what they get:
  • Rs. 500 off on eBooks
  • Rs. 1,000 off on Clothing
  • 70% off on Colorful Back Covers for the Moto G
  • A chance to get 100% cashback (in the form of Flipkart e-GIft vouchers)
And here is what Snapdeal is offering:
  • Free 1 GB Airtel 3G Data (some code to let you get that will be sent within 7 days of delivery)
  • Free 1 Year Extended Warranty
  • Free 1 Year Accidental Warranty (we assume it will be for the first year)
  • Free back panel case (not clear whether you will be allowed to choose a color)
Unlike Flipkart, Snapdeal doesn’t state any condition that binds the user to purchase the Moto G within any given time-frame to avail the benefits of the scheme. Though, we are pretty sure that Snapdeal won’t be providing the freebies with the phone forever, so, if you want them, make sure you order yourself one quickly. It is pretty clear that Snapdeal’s offer seems much more tempting than Flipkart’s, though it would be foolish to declare a winner here without looking at what price these retailers will be pricing the phone.

Snapdeal listing also states that the device will be released in the 3rd week of February. It is possible that Flipkart might be the exclusive retailer selling the phone for a small period of time.

Till your wait for Moto G’s Indian launch is over, you can sign up with your email address on Flipkart as well as Snapdeal to get the news as it happens. Otherwise, we are always here to deliver it (news, not the Moto G) to you.
Thanks Rhythm for the heads up about the Snapdeal listing.

After Iris 404e, Lava introduces Iris 408e for Rs. 3899

Lava is one of the prominent Indian device manufacturers out there, most of which can be attributed to the Android lineup of this device manufacturer. Lava has added two new smartphones: Iris 404e and Iris 408e to its Iris lineup. Both these smartphones are missing the crucial 3G connectivity option.

Iris 408e runs on the 3 year old Gingerbread Operating system. It is a huge letdown to see Indian brands launching Gingerbread devices into the market even when Android 4.4 is available, which is the fifth major update over Gingerbread. Things don't improve much as we go further. The phone is powered by a 1 GHz single core processor, 1500 mAh battery, 4 inch display, a 3 MP camera at the back and a VGA one at the front, 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB of on-board storage and micro sd card support. 3G support is expectdly missing from an Android smartphone at this price point.

Technical Specifications: Lava Iris 408e

  • 4 inch WVGA display (480x800 pixels, 233 ppi)
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 1 GHz processor
  • 3 MP Rear Camera, VGA Front camera
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • No 3G support
  • EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
  • FM Radio
  • 256 MB RAM
  • 512 MB on-board storage
Lava Iris 408e is retailing at understandably lower price tag of Rs. 3,829 at Saholic.

None of these recent launches from Lava (404e and 408e) seem powerful enough to be placed in our handpicked list of best Android smartphones under Rs. 5,000.

The pricing details of Moto G have been announced officially and we are very excited to report that the phone has been priced just what the people wanted. The pricing details were made official in a launch event organized by Motorola and Flipkart.

The 8 GB version of the Moto G will sell for Rs. 12,499 while the 16 GB version will cost a reasonable one and a half grand more at Rs. 13,999. This pricing is now reflected in Flipkart's Moto G listing which, at the time of writing, shows the Moto G to be coming soon.

Flipkart will sell the phone exclusively for about two weeks, after which other retailers (read Snapdeal) will also make the phone available with different offers.
Moto G Flipkart Listing

Should you wait for Moto G's launch on Snapdeal?

In a comparison of the launch offers, we had said that Snapdeal's launch offer sounds much better than Flipkart's. Given that Flipkart has exclusive selling rights over Moto G, you should probably wait for the phone's availability and pricing. Even if Snapdeal sells the phone for Rs. 1-2k higher, which it most probably wouldn't, the deal is still sweeter on Snapdeal as the freebies from Snapdeal count to about Rs. 3-4k. So, if you could hold on to buying the Moto G for just two weeks, I would suggest you cash out Snapdeal's offer instead.

At the price Moto G has been launched on, it will compete with Micromax and other Indian brands' higher-end smartphone offerings. Also, Samsung's Grand Quattro, Galaxy Core etc. What's interesting to note is that no other reputed brand is offering such specs at anywhere near this price. So, if Motorola does promote the phone aptly, Moto G can help Motorola make a groundbreaking return to India.

If you are thinking why there is so much fuss about Moto G, here are its specs:

  • 4.5 inch 720p screen (326 ppi)
  • 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 Quad-core
  • 8 GB/ 16 GB internal storage
  • 5 MP primary camera with Auto Focus, 1.3 MP secodnary camera
  • 1 GB RAM, Adreno 305 Graphics
  • 2070 mAh battery
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

We shall keep you posted when the phone goes live on Flipkart. Stay tuned! In the mean time, check our coverage of the Moto G so far.

While many people were awaiting Moto G’s launch and were excited to finally heat the astonishing pricing details, I confronted a minority which felt that the Moto G wasn’t a good deal even at that price. In this post, I shall try to show you why I think that the Moto G is indeed an exceptional at an exceptional price.

  • Great Launch offers:
Even at a price tag of Rs. 12,500, Moto G is coming with great launch offers which amount to over Rs. 2,000. Flipkart was offering Rs. 1,000 off on Clothing items (minimum purchase Rs. 1001) and Rs. 500 off on Ebooks (minimum purchase Rs. 501). Also, buying a switchable back cover along with the device costed Rs. 270 instead of the routine Rs. 900. All this is collectively worth Rs. 2,130. You are too late for this offer though, as this was offered to only those who purchased the phone on the first day of launch i.e. today, but the phone has already gone out of stock. But don’t get disheartened, Snapdeal has been offering even better launch offer. We shall keep you updated when the phone goes on sale there.
  • Availability of accessories:Several Moto G accessories would be available pretty soon, making it easy for you to suit your phone as per your needs. There will be a hoard of back covers, flip covers, cases, earphones and other things to choose from.
  • Upgradable to KitKat, Stock OS:Apart from Nexus 5, we have a very handful of devices which are running on the latest and greatest of the Android platform, the KitKat version. Even fewer of them are priced anywhere near the Rs. 12,500 mark. KitKat brings with it some additional features, a polished look and better memory management. Though not backed by any source, I’m pretty sure Moto G will get at least one more official Android update (and a bunch of unofficial ones) as Moto G runs a stock-ish version of Android, thus making it easy and less costly for the manufacturer to release an update.
Moreover, as Motorola hasn’t added any skin over stock Android, it provides vanilla Android experience which is better than most UIs renowned manufacturers apply on their phone to make them distinguish their software.
  • 2070 mAh Battery:In terms of mAh, this isn’t the biggest battery you will get in a phone at this budget. But thanks to Motorola’s software optimizations, Moto G can survive a full day of hard-core usage. Normal usage of the phone can get you through even two days without needing to find a wall charger. These claims have been confirmed by many personal as well as public reviews.
  • Best for Advanced users:
If rooting your Android phone is usual for you, you would probably love this phone even more. Given the huge interest it has generated among public, several developers will be working on the device providing awesome mods and custom roms (like Cyanogenmod, AOKP, Paranoid and others) for the Moto G. One can only dream of this when buying a device from a local manufacturer.
  • 4.5 inch screen is perfect, for most:4.5 inch screen size is arguably the best size that exists for a smartphone. One can easily operate the phone single handedly, something that’s not possible on the 5 inch ones. Also, 720p resolution looks crisper on a 4.5 inch screen than  a 5 inch one.
  • Water-resistant:Though not heavily advertised, Moto G is water-resistant i.e. you won’t have to worry while using your phone when it is raining outside. It won’t probably last if you submerge it into water for hours but an occasional spill in a bucket of water, or a jug of water spilling over it, shouldn’t damage the phone.
  • It’s Motorola, Dude!Motorola is, for most, a better known and reputed brand than Micromax, Karbonn, Lava  and the likes. These local Indian manufacturers, and some chinese ones are the only ones which are offering phones with similar specs at this price tag. But then, you would be missing out on all the pros we’ve stated above.
If the above reasons seem enough, you can grab one for yourself right now (Moto G 8 GB is in stock, at the time of writing).

Thanks to internet, good deals never go unnnoticed from netizens. Moto G has been one of the most awaited mid-end device we’ve seen in the recent years in India. We were able to catch a glimpse of the demand Moto G is in, when over 20,000 units of the Moto G were booked on Flipkart in less than an hour.

Moto G was made available for sale at 00:00 a.m. on Flipkart today. 5,000 units of the 16 GB Moto G variant were sold out within 15 minutes while it took another 45 minutes for the 14,800 units of the 8 GB Moto G variant to disappear.

Flipkart and Snapdeal both have been offering great launch offers for the device. As Flipkart’s offers were only for those who bought the device on the first day itself, these 20k buyers were the only ones who were able to take advantage of Flipkart’s offers. As per the offer, out of these 20,000 buyers, 100 will get full cashback in terms of Flipkart wallet balance. Moto G will become available on Snapdeal somewhere in the third week of February.

Micromax launches A93 Canvas Elanza with 5" qHD res and 1 GB RAM for Rs. 9400

Micromax has added a new Android smartphone to its sub-10k lineup in India. Canvas Elanza, the newest addition to Micromax portfolio, has been listed on India's major online retailer Snapdeal for a price tag of Rs. 9400.

The device fails to be a head-turner with its sleazy curved looks and mediocre specifications for the price tag. At 5 inch, the qHD resolution (540x960 pixels) would churn out a pixel density of just 220 pixels per inch. The Canvas Elanza is powered by a 1.3 GHz dual core processor and a 5 MP shooter at the back.

Micromax A93 Canvas Elanza Specifications:

  • 5 inch display
  • qHD resolution (540x960 pixels) at 220 ppi
  • 1.3 GHz Dual Core processor (most possibly a Mediatek one)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 5 MP primary camera, 0.3 MP secondary camera
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4 GB Internal memory
  • 1950 mAh battery
  • 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Dual SIM
These specifications sound no better than the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2, which has a smaller 4 inch screen but manages a higher ppi density, a 5 MP shooter at the back and a dual core processor. Galaxy S Duos 2 is available on Flipkart for a similar price tag (Rs. 9760). So, it looks like Micromax is feeling confident enough to price its devices on par with Samsung. Whether this strategy reaps any benefits for Micromax is yet to be seen.

Lava launches Xolo A500 Club with dual front speakers and software features for Rs. 7,099

Lava has launched a new mid-end device powered by the MediaTek dual core processor, as usual and it has been named Xolo A500 Club. The word Club refers to the great audio experience that the phone is advertised to provide thanks to dual speakers on the front side.

Many people love the presence of speakers on the front side as it makes it easy to listen to sound when the phone is lying on its back on soft surfaces which would have absorbed some sound if the speakers were placed on the rear side, as we conventionally see. The HTC One received accolades from users for placement of the speakers on that device. This thing, plus the trendy looks of the Xolo A500 Club gives it a premium touch.

In a press release of the A500 Club, Lava disclosed information about the hardware and software front of the smartphone. Talking about software first, Xolo A500 Club will have a Quick Access Toolbar for (supposedly) quicker access to favorite applications. Also included is a float bar which allows the user to get to their media (music and videos) quickly. Xolo A500 also features a Smart Selfie feature which offers automatic face and smile recognition on voice prompt.

Though, we, at Droidiser.com, love Vanilla Android experience over everything else, whether these "smart" features makes this phone any smarter than other Android devices is yet to be seen. Moreover, the Quick Access toolbar and Float bar etc. can be obtained on any Android smartphone by using suitable applications from the Play Store.
Lava Xolo A500 Club

Xolo Club A500 Specifications

  • 4 inch WVGA display (480x800 pixels, 233 ppi)
  • IPS Display, OGS Technology (One Glass Solution, allows for thinner glass)
  • 1.3 GHz MediaTek Dual Core MT6572 Processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 4 GB Internal memory with support for external micro sd card
  • 1400 mAh battery
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 5 MP Rear camera with flash, VGA Front camera
  • 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, FM Radio
Though almost all these specifications are present in Karbonn A12+ at Rs. 5000, this phone still gets bonus points for the front speakers and the OGS technology.
